Kanturk Christmas Street Market 2015

The Annual Christmas Street Market was on Friday Dec. 18th, it turned out to be a tremendous success. A few mistakes were made but overall things were good. It is always a bad day when you do not learn something new.

We had around 30 different participants in the event, differing from Local people involved in arts and crafts, to photographers, to Artists, To local Charities selling Christmas Cards, Local Restaurants displaying their nice things.

What was really great to see was 7 Different Groups of Transition Year Students with their Min Companies displaying & selling their products.
The range of products that the students brought was wide from Car Safety Kits To Bath Bombs To Health Books To Manicure Creams and Heath Books. A very special Well Done and Thanks for coming.

The Market started was this year back to Watergate St. for the first time in a few years, there is something really special about this Street for the Market, the closeness of the buildings making everyone tucked in tight and close together and being in the heart of the town plus the convenience of the Town.
We start at the top with Niall Moynihan and his company Real Meat offering Organic Meat
Bobs Bar with Patrick displaying some lovely and tempting pastries,
McCarthys Butchers having a wide range of delicious food.
Eliza Rodrigues got lots of different curries.
Gala Service Station who are regular visitors were back with plenty of home made Breads,
Bernie Cotter really had a great selection of Christmas ornaments

North Cork Co-Op displaying their wide range of local produce, always remember Kanturk depends a lot on its farming hinterland.

Noreen O'Connell selling her Christmas Cards for the Guide Dogs for the Disabled. The Photo Shop displaying their ware with Rachel as a superb attendant. Michael O'Sullivan with superb Hand Crafted Timber pieces.Across the way was Noreen O'Callaghan and The Womens Open Door Group with Christmas Wreaths & Bouquets

Elle Marie O'Dwyer was here for the first time but sure she is nearly one of our own bringing a musical flavour to the occasion.

Around here on our journey down the street were most of the already mentioned  Transition Year students and a special welcome to Roisin Murphy and Sean Meehan who travelled from foreign land as in BOHERBUE. Hope you pass on the word to next years Transition Year Students in Boherbue Comphrensive.

One of the Local Businesses to take up the opportunity of a Stall was the Florist from Kanturk. Castle Buds, Gordon bought into this business earlier this year, so from all in Kanturk Chamber Of Commerce best of luck.

AROUND  HERE HIGHLIGHTED ONE  OF  THE  LESSONS TO  BE  LEARNED  MORE  LIGHTING REQUIRED.  POINT  TAKEN.

Peter ' CAL ' O'Callaghan -- What can we say but only a big and worthy THANKS from everybody for supplying the music.

Next was all the way from Mallow was Helen O'Boyle, who probably had one of the best stalls with loads of her Crochet Garments, keep producing this quality and it will not be a Retirement Hobby for long. You never knoe Liam may help you!!

Over the last few years a lot of people have arrived in our town and a good few from different countries is Janusz Tresicki who is probably one of the best known because of his photography
Janusz Trzesicki Photography -- he is a regular snapper at Rugby, GAA and Soccer matches & has come along for the trip with his camera on local Charity Climbs over the last 2 years.

AROUND  HERE HIGHLIGHTED ONE  OF  THE  LESSONS TO  BE  LEARNED  SOME FORM OF  WIND BREAK  REQUIRED AS  THE LAST 3  STALLS  WERE NEARLY  BLOWN  AWAY  POINT  TAKEN.

Another Transition Year were blow in the corner with Sean O'Brien and Andrew Keating showing off their Car Safety Kits, Pity you were in the corner lads !!

The Last stall beside the Car Park and probably taking the worst of the gusty conditions was local Artist Vivienne Buckley. I think Viv had a hard day but the rain affected her pictures as well. Hopefully you may come again and also we may have learnt a few lessons as well.

ANOTHER  ISSUE TO TAKE  NOTE OF  IS  TRAFFIC -- maybe we will have to go a week earlier and on a Saturday to help not causing traffic chaos will have to be decided on another day on mature reflection and probably co-ordinate with other groups to organise a proper week end will have to come into consideration.

A FEW THANK YOU'S

TO JERRY HICKEY FROM THE COMMUNITY COUNCIL FOR MAKING UP ALL THE POWER LEADS
